HOTEL PASTRY COOK POSITION PROFILE

Reports To: Hotel Executive Chef, position is exempt

Job Summary:
We are seeking a talented and passionate Pastry Cook to join our culinary team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in pastry arts, creativity in developing desserts, and a commitment to delivering exceptional quality. You will be responsible for preparing a variety of pastries, breads, and desserts while maintaining a clean and organized work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparation and Baking:

    • Prepare and bake a variety of pastries, cakes, cookies, and breads according to established recipes and standards.
    • Ensure all baked goods are produced with high quality and consistency.
  • Creativity and Innovation:

    • Assist in the development of new dessert recipes and seasonal offerings.
    • Present desserts in an appealing manner, paying attention to aesthetics and creativity.
  • Quality Control:

    • Monitor and maintain inventory of pastry ingredients and supplies.
    • Conduct taste tests to ensure quality and flavor meet standards.
  • Kitchen Operations:

    • Maintain a clean and organized workstation, following all safety and sanitation guidelines.
    • Assist with daily kitchen operations, including prepping ingredients and cleaning.
  • Collaboration:

    • Work closely with other kitchen staff to ensure timely service and smooth kitchen operations.
    • Communicate effectively with team members regarding tasks and any issues that arise.
  • Training and Development:

    • Mentor and assist junior pastry staff and apprentices as needed.
    • Stay updated on industry trends and techniques to continuously improve skills.

Qualifications:

  • Education:

    • Culinary degree or equivalent experience in pastry and baking.
  • Experience:

    • Minimum [2-3 years] experience in a pastry cook or similar role in a high-volume kitchen.
  • Skills:

    • Strong knowledge of pastry techniques and dessert presentation.
    • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
    • Excellent attention to detail and creativity.
  • Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to lift heavy items and stand for long periods.
    • Must be able to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
