Join the dynamic team at Daxton Hotel, an independently owned boutique hotel featuring over 400 pieces of cutting-edge art from around the globe. All 151 guest rooms and suites contain a custom-made unique piece. Thoughtfully curated by Saatchi Art, the pieces from artists, including Karin Vermeer and Louise “Ouizi” Jones, represent multiple mediums like sculpture, collage, photography drawing, and painting.

Job Summary: As a hotel banquet cook, you will be responsible for preparing and presenting high-quality dishes to create memorable dining experiences for guests attending banquets, conferences, weddings, and other special events hosted by the hotel. You will work closely with the banquet chef and kitchen team to ensure all dishes meet the established standards of taste, presentation, and food safety.

Responsibilities:

  1. Food Preparation: Prepare a variety of dishes, including appetizers, entrees, and desserts, according to recipes and specifications provided by the banquet chef.

  2. Menu Planning: Assist in developing banquet menus by suggesting creative and innovative dishes that cater to the preferences and dietary restrictions of guests.

  3. Cooking Techniques: Utilize various cooking techniques, such as grilling, sautéing, roasting, and baking, to achieve desired flavors and textures in dishes.

  4. Food Presentation: Plate and garnish dishes attractively to enhance their visual appeal and ensure they meet the hotel's standards for presentation.

  5. Quality Control: Maintain high standards of food quality and consistency by inspecting ingredients for freshness, monitoring cooking processes, and tasting dishes for flavor.

  6. Kitchen Hygiene: Adhere to all sanitation and safety procedures to ensure a clean and hygienic working environment in compliance with health regulations.

  7. Inventory Management: Assist in managing inventory levels by monitoring stock of ingredients, notifying supervisors of shortages, and properly storing perishable items.

  8. Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other kitchen staff members to coordinate food preparation and ensure timely service during banquet events.

  9. Customer Service: Interact professionally with banquet staff and guests to address any special requests or dietary concerns and provide exceptional customer service.

  10. Adaptability: Flexibility is key in this role, as you may be required to work long hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to accommodate the demands of banquet schedules.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a cook in a hotel or banquet setting, with knowledge of various culinary techniques and cuisines.
  • Certification from a culinary school or equivalent training preferred.
  • Strong understanding of food safety and sanitation practices.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new recipes and techniques.
  • Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift heavy objects.
